RODNEY SPENCER UPDATE

Thursday, 1/28/10
As of yesterday, Rodney came home from Passavant.  He is on a soft diet due to having two leaks cauterized - one in the small intestine and one in the stomach.  This was accomplished by a female gasterologist after the one who said to send Rodney down to Passavant said he couldn't do it after Rodney got there.  She said the one in the small intestine was down pretty far.  She told them to watch for future leaks and Helen said they sure know how to do that!  And if any should occur, they will go back to her at Passavant.  They are also going to look for a wound care doctor to help with the incision and the area at the top that seems to keep getting infected.  They were told that Rod should not be taking anymore oral medication (pills), his medication should either be liquid or IV.  And they are going to try to do that.  The oral meds (antibiotics) are eating him alive.  They are both very tired - Helen said she feels like an old wet noodle---------too much stress and for such a long time.

Let's all pray that Rodney regains strength and health soon.

Please feel free to forward this e-mail.  I did forward several names to add to google, but I haven't heard anything back as yet.

 Morning everybody -----------

I talked to Helen over the weekend.  Rodney is doing well.  He has color in his face and his energy level is getting better.  No signs of any leakage, but they will keep a close check on that --- you can be sure of that.

Friday night they went over to Alamo and were glad to see everybody and vice versa.  Rodney did a short sequence of calling.  Then there were three birthdays in their family this past weekend, so Saturday evening they had one birthday get-together and then on Sunday another one.  Yesterday Rodney had an appt. with the VA, today they are taking "J" down to AGH for a meeting about what type of material they are going to use to place in his skull since he was allergic to the last surgery he had for that.

Will write when I have more news.  And, let's hope it continues to be "GOOD"!!!!!

Well, Rodney was doing well on Sunday at their grandson's birthday party and then on Monday they began to see signs that there is another leak.  Today their PCP  called and told Rodney to go to Butler Hospital and he received two units of blood there.  Also, he is to be admitted to Passavant Hospital tomorrow and hopefully the female gasterologist will be able to find the leak and cauterize it.  Helen said he is so discouraged.  And, we can all certainly understand why!  We need to keep him in our prayers and Helen too.
