JUNE 2008
Can we put on a dance or what! The Hot Dog Dance was fantastic. Nearly 250 square and round dancers make quite an impressive site. There were lots of callers, cuers -- and visitors from across the state of Ohio and Pennsylvania. Next year we will have to dance in the halls!
The Williamsons did a very good job but it was nothing compared to what the Circulators did. I received compliment after compliment. One of the ladies from Brecksville even asked if she could come to one of our “organizational meetings,” so that she could learn how to put together such a great dance. I couldn’t help it, I laughed out loud. Our success is from people helping other people and having fun in the process. I compared our dances to a large family Thanksgiving dinner. Everyone pitches in and helps. You might be making the mashed potatoes, but the potatoes are no more important than the desserts or setting the table. Everyone contributes to a successful event, and at the end everyone is satisfied and exhausted.
I once had a hat the said, “I’m their leader, which way did they go?” -- Seems appropriate for me, and our group.
Howard Williamson and I were talking during the Hot Dog dance, and he said his biggest reward is making everyone smile. When I looked at the dancers everyone was smiling – They couldn’t stop smiling, – and that made me smile to.

Students - Past and Future
Our new dancers are doing well since graduation. The most important thing a new dancer can do is to keep dancing. Compare your lessons to sitting in a classroom, learning a foreign language. Now is the time to practice what you have learned in this foreign place called Square Dancing.
Lessons for new dancers begin, Wednesday, September 10th, 7:00 – 9:00 pm at the Brown Middle School auxiliary gym. This is for new and slightly experienced, and rusty dancers. Do you have your list of potential students? You can add to it later but we need to get the preliminary list posted to your refrigerator now.
Thank You
JoAnn and I would like to express our thanks for all of your support and efforts to elect us as the Akron Federation Honor Couple. There were several nice couples that had been nominated by their clubs. We know how hard you worked together to get the word out about our nomination. And you followed through with other clubs to get their support.
Also, thank you for coming as a group to support us at the Honor Couple Dance. It was great.
We are working on next year’s Honor Couple Dance now. We will be asking for your help on it too.
Thank you.
Leroy and JoAnn Gruver
